Use your Private Vault
The Private Vault is a part of Vault that only you can open. Files and their names are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded, so Atlandrak stores them but can't see them.
Steps
- Open Vault → Private Vault.
- Choose Set up Private Vault and pick a passphrase of at least 10 characters.
- Save the recovery key you are shown: write it down or save it as a text file somewhere safe, away from your device.
- Choose Add files or drag files onto the page. Each file is encrypted before it leaves your device.
- Choose Open or Download to decrypt a file on your device.
- Choose Lock when you are done. It also locks by itself after 15 minutes without activity and when you close the page.
Good to know
- If you forget your passphrase, choose I forgot my passphrase and type your recovery key to set a new one.
- If you lose both the passphrase and the recovery key, nobody can open the files, including Atlandrak. You can only delete the Private Vault and start again.
- Files in the Private Vault count toward your storage and can be up to 500 MB each.
- Deleting a private file removes it at once; private files don't go to the trash.
- Change your passphrase or make a new recovery key in Settings. A new recovery key replaces the old one.
- Private files can't be shared, previewed by Atlandrak or found by search, because only your device can read them.
